In the earliest years our children learn primarily by imitation and activity, and our programs use exploration and play as the foundation for independent thought and creative thinking. Spending time in large, sunny classrooms and the outdoors, children explore the beauty of the natural world while participating in activities that nurture their imagination, creativity, and confidence.

In Grades 1 - 5, students generally remain with the same teacher as they progress through each academic year to develop close relationships with their teacher and class.  The class teacher guides students through the morning Main Lesson, a two-hour period dedicated to a rotating schedule of English, Math, History, and the Sciences. Storytelling and Art are used as teaching devices to help students develop core academic skills through individual and collaborative problem-solving. The students’ education is enriched by specialty teachers in Spanish and Mandarin, Vocal and Instrumental Music, Math, Physical Education, Handwork, and Woodwork.

In Grades 6-8, the curriculum aims more strongly to enhance the reasoning capacities of students, encourage their transition to become critical thinkers able to dialogue with and synthesize a multiplicity of information before drawing conclusions. Scientific observation and discovery are engaged, mathematical concepts explored, historical changes, migrations of cultural development, and systems of governance in various eras are studied.
 
In the social realm, much attention is given to students' interpersonal skills and communicative abilities, bolstered by opportunities to engage in projects with practical and ‘real world’ applications. Class field trips become more ambitious in scope, and often include the physical challenges of ropes courses, rock climbing, caving, outdoor wilderness camping and more. Such travel tests students and supports them in building confidence in their capabilities, as well as creating memorable bonding experiences.

Afterschool Care is a rhythmic breathing-out to the activities of the school day, with the afternoon consisting of free play on the school yard for lower grades, a healthful sit-down snack, followed by rotating activities concurrent to the seasons.

Families whose children take part in Afterschool Care can be confident that their child will be in a safe, natural environment that will naturally and productively flow from the school day to a restful evening at home.
